AB/DLs (or ABDLs) is an acronym for "Adult Baby Diaper Lover" - someone who enjoys role-playing as a baby, wearing adult diapers, or both. Some diaper lovers are adult babies, but not always.
Diaper lovers are generally people who enjoy wearing diapers without a medical need to do so or enjoy watching others wear diapers for sexual enjoyment, but without the associated role-playing as a baby.
For diaper lovers, the diaper is the focus of their interest and they often buy and try many different ones until they find one they like. Diaper lovers generally enjoy plush, soft diapers with a thick backsheet, high absorbency, and those which are leak-proof and as comfortable as possible.
Online surveys have shown that about half of all diaper lovers choose to wear their diapers daily, rather than as an occasional thing.
Diaper fetishism is wearing diapers as an erotic or sexual behaviour, often with masturbation or sex with a partner who may also be wearing a diaper, or who enjoys watching someone wearing a diaper.
Wearing a diaper for non-sexual enjoyment is also common. Often a person will need to wear a diaper for medical reasons such as incontinence, and begin to enjoy the sensation and the search for better, more comfortable, or more feature-rich briefs.
For others, wearing a diaper in public under regular clothing simply feels naughty or secretive, without necessarily being arousing.
And for yet others, there is a sense of security or comfort that may be a throwback to childhood, but without the desire to themselves be a baby.
Men vs Women
Studies of AB/DL website participants have shown that the majority of adult baby diaper lovers tend to be men, and most started showing an interest in the lifestyle around puberty. Women are generally less likely to be openly ABDL, but are more likely to be willing to engage in parent-child co-play and treating an adult baby like a baby.
ABDLs and Pedophilia
Clinical sexologists have consistently stated that there is no association between the ABDL lifestyle and pedophilia. Often, the role playing of being an adult baby is fundamentally non-sexual as babies have no sex drive!
However, as people often start to show interest in the ABDL world around puberty, there is a common risk for underage teens to enter the community either online or in real life, where they may be at risk. Because the ABDL lifestyle is commonly considered erotic for many ABDLs, underage boys and girls should not be encouraged to go to websites where they will be exposed to sexually explicit content.
It's important to remember that whether you're an adult baby, a diaper lover, or both, it's more common than publicly acknowledged and there are thousands of people around the world in all cultures who enjoy it, too.
